Dear me, Numbnut, have you nothing better to worry/get angry about than the comments people make on the village forum???

Nice one NADMR - see what you did there - liking that.

Interesting thread. Passions aroused and spleens fully vented? Were the 'Oiks' identified and brought to book? I've missed so much while I was away. 8)

It's a great time of year to do a lot of 'cutting back' in the garden. Unfortunately, at least one household is still dumping garden waste in the river. If it's you, please stop.

I reported this to the parish council, but this was the reply i had

"Thank you for alerting us.  One of our councilors went to look on Friday and the logs had been removed, there was some debris on the bank but it is not thought to be a problem.  We will continue to monitor the situation."

In fact i never said there were any logs, i was just cross that that they thought they had the right to dump the vegetation on the bank.

There is still a lot of garden waste and other debris ending up in the river. It's possible some may have been blown in by the gales the other week, but it looks like some residents living near the water are using it as a waste disposal chute. We keep getting a small weir forming, as bundles of twigs and small branches get snagged on the vegetation. Before you know it, a small, oily-surfaced stagnant lake appears behind the blockage. Lovely  :(

I have also noticed when out walking that where the river flows under the road at the Mill bridge needs a good clear out of leaves and debris.  Not sure whose responsibility it is but if I had a house that was in danger of flooding I would certainly be getting my wellingtons on and clearing it out.

I'm not sure if the Cambridgeshire wildlife trust would be interested in this matter in honest truth

Sixlegs- my wellies are not quite big enough to keep the icy waters out, but I do have a long 'grabber', fashioned from a couple of runner bean poles lashed together (is lashing still taught?) to pull things in from the water.

Still a lot of drinks bottles making their way through the village in the water. Such a shame.

in general if I see rubbish and I can pick it up and put it in a bin, I will try and do so but it is just a case of whether it's possible at the time or not.

Happy St David's Day- the first day of spring in some people's minds. It certainly felt spring-like today.
Looks like someone gave their lawn its first haircut of the year and dumped the trimmings in the river. Seemed a lot of it- it was drifting by the end of our garden for over an hour.

Another lot dumped in the river today. It was mainly beech leaves this time. From somewhere between the Dog and Duck and the rec.

Garden waste is still being thrown in the river. Just because the grass cutters for the recreation ground dump trimmings on the river banks doesn't mean others can freely do it  >:(.

Some **** has just dumped a load more grass cuttings in the river. It's bad enough anyway, but to do it on the day our green bins have been emptied leaves very few excuses for even the stupidest.  >:(
