News from PC Rebecca Parkin, via ecops:

I hope you have had a pleasant week. Just to let you know that I am back from maternity leave and back in the post of Linton Neighbourhood Beat Officer, which I am sharing with PC Rachael Mallender.

Please find below a list of the crimes committed in your area this week. We encourage anyone with information on any of the crimes to come forward and contact us on 0345 456 4564  [this number is due to be phased out- call 101 instead]  or anonymously via Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

22 - 23 Jan - Theft of motor vehicle - from Market Lane, Linton. A yellow Vauxhall Brava pick up, loaded with scrap metal, was stolen overnight.

22nd Jan - Possession of Cannabis - a resident of Linton reported a group of 5 youths smoking cannabis and being rowdy outside of the Police Office, and on the High Street in Linton. Officers attended and a group of males were stopped and searched. Two members of the group were found to be in possession of cannabis and were dealt with accordingly. One was arrested and will soon be charged and the other was issued with a formal warning for possession.

26th Jan - Making off without Payment - Granta Filling Station (BP), Linton - at 1530 hours, a Maroon Ford Transit filled up with over £100 pounds worth of fuel, before driving off without making payment. The garage did not manage to take down the offenders vehicle registration, and the CCTV fails to show it.

26 - 27 Jan - Burglary Dwelling - Hillway, Linton - overnight, a bungalow has been entered through an open window, and offender(s) have stolen 2 laptops.

The local team are continuing to conduct speed checks in the area, and to pro-actively deal with parking issues. A fixed penalty ticket was issued to a vehicle that was parked on the double yellow lines outside the co-op in Linton.

An urgent appeal from ecops:

We would like to appeal to anyone who may be able to give us any information regarding 2 males acting suspiciously in the Linton area.

Last night, Tuesday 13th March 2012 at around 18:45 hours 2 males attended a property in The Ridgeway, Linton. The males knocked on the door and asked to see the electrics to the property saying that a neighbour was having problems and they needed to check the electrics. The elderly occupant of the property let the 2 males in. The first male is described at white, 16 to 20 years of age, 5 foot in height with black curly short hair, he was wearing a navy jacket, navy trousers and black lace up shoes. The second male is described as white, 41 to 60 years of age, with dyed black hair, 5 foot 6 inches in height who spoke with an irish accent. He was wearing very dark clothing. After letting the males into the property the victim noticed the older male come out of the bedroom and then both males have left the property. An amount of cash was taken together with two items of jewellery. It is not known whether these males were in a vehicle.

Were you around The Ridgeway/Bartlow Road area of Linton that evening? Did you see anyone matching the descriptions above? Were you yourself subject to a knock on the door asking whether your electrics could be checked? Have you in the past week seen anyone matching the above descriptions, maybe cold calling in the area?

If you could help us with our enquiries, please telephone 101 and ask to leave your details with for the Linton Safer Neighbourhood Team regarding a recent distraction burglary.

Please get the word around to your friends, neighbours and relatives regarding this incident and please continue to report any suspicious activiting in your area. Your information is gratefully received.

REMEMBER:- Legitimate callers will carry identification and relevant paperwork. Always check to see who it is through a spy hole or through a side window and always put your door chain on. Most legitimate callers will wait patiently and will be willing to answer any questions about their visit - it is good practice among many organisations to call ahead and make an appointment beforehand rather than turning up on your doorstep unannounced. NOT SURE? DON'T OPEN THE DOOR.

Thank you for your help and support.

The quarterly Neighbourhood Panel Meeting is at 7.30 this evening at the Heights School. Come along for some alternative entertainment, ask questions of the local Inspector, or simply sit back and listen  :police:.

The latest from our PCSOs..

On the 26th of February at around 5pm a motor vehicle was damaged at a non dwelling premises on Cambridge Road, Linton. Two tyres were slashed on the small hatchback. Entry was not gained to the vehicle and no property was taken.

A business burglary occured on the 5th of March at around 8.20pm. This was also on Cambridge Road, Linton. Offender(s) have thrown a solid object through a large double glazed ground floor window gaining entry to the office area. Computers were moved and an untidy search carried out.

On the 6th of March between 1.15pm and 2.20pm a patio gas heater has been removed from the front garden of a residential property in Granta Vale, Linton. Did you see anyone with a patio heater in the area at this time? These items are usually large & obvious!

On the 10th/11th of March between 11pm and 09.45am offender(s) have damaged a window planter by pulling it from a window frame at a residential property in Horn Lane, Linton. This was discarded close by. This property has also been further victim of a theft of "No Parking Sign" later in the month. Local officers have increased patrols in this area during peak times and are working closely with the owner to identify suspects and improve security measures.

Myself and Leanne have been receiving complaints around the Linton and Balsham villages relating to the anti social use of motor vehicles. This includes cars wheel spinning and "showing off" and mopeds being raced and ridden across recreation grounds. If you have witnessed this type of incident please get in contact with us. We have powers in place which may be suitable to use in these circumstances. If a registration number can be taken at the time of the offence with a brief description of the vehicle/driver or rider and the manner in which it is being used we may be able to use legislation under the Police Reform Act to issue a driver with an official warning which if breached results in the vehicle being seized by police.

Latest from ecops:

5/4/2012 - between 19:20 hours on the 5th April and 09:30 hours on the 6th April - there was a fire on the footpath which runs between Rivey Way and Chalklands. The footpath takes you up to Rivey Woods. The fire was near to the fencing of a property in Chalklands and the embers from the fire caused damage to property in one of the gardens in Chalklands. It is not sure if they fire was deliberate and enquiries have proved negative at this stage. If anyone has any information about this fire could they please contact us as a matter of urgency.

Between the 26th March and thr 13th April - a male has visited and stayed at 3 different public houses, one in Linton, one in Balsham and the other in Bartlow. The male has eaten and stayed at each establishment and made off without payment. All 3 offences have been committed by the same male. The male is purporting to be jockey and visiting the Newmarket area. He is described as being white, slim build, approximately 5 foot 6 inches in height, with light ginger/blonde hair in a grade 1 and balding with ferrett like pointy features, freckles with bad teeth. He has a large 8 inch scar just above his belly button which he received whilst falling off a horse which he is very proud of and often shows it off. He has a local accent but it seems to change in his conversations. He has on occasions been wearing blue tracksuit bottoms, a grey/black coat and a brown and yellow striped scarf. He targets small village pubs with accommodation and befriends the staff there. He will give a Barclay debit card over and then he will run up a huge bill and then disappear ( the cards are un-useable). He makes out he is a jockey and has to travel a lot which is why he uses those establishments. He is fairly knowledgeable about horses so his story works. He gives out phone numbers which do not work and will have a female visit him periodically but we have no description of her. He has no car that we are aware of at this time.
We would be grateful if you would pass this information on to anyone you know who runs a public house or B&B. Also if anybody knows who this male maybe, would you please contact us as a matter of urgency. Your help in catching this male would be greatly received.

I can confirm that myself and Chris will be looking at parking issues around the school areas over the next few weeks when the schools re-open. Also attention will be paid to the areas of Church Lane, Horn Lane and Meadow Lane on an evening to move on any groups of youths congregating in the area acting in an anti social manner.
