DOG & DUCK New Manager
« on: January 04, 2012, 11:04:39 AM »
Hi,

The Dog and Duck has reopened under temporary management for 5 weeks until a new couple take over in February.  There is no food available until the new couple arrive, the reason being, it seems silly to implement a new menu for it to be changed again in 5 weeks, half of the problem with this pub is the lack of consistency, therefore it seems a little short sighted to have too many changes going on for the interim period.

Dogs ( and ducks) are permitted as long as their owners are well behaved! No cats apart from Charlie and definitely no ponies please!

Look forward to meeting more of you.

Nice to see you posting on here, I wish more managers had taken the trouble to do this.

You forgot to mention the most significant change - the door closer has been fixed  :o

Am pleased to report that Charlie is no longer grumpy, although he is keeping me awake at night as his latest favourite place to sleep is between me and Mrs C.

Jolly friendly welcome at the D&D on Sunday- the Only Way is Up indeed!   The prices are back to normal (i.e. competitive with the Crown and the Waggon) and we shall be frequenting the D&D more often than as of late.  However- we have enjoyed our trips out to the Waggon and the Crown and shall continue to use them from now on- great to have the option of three welcoming pubs- long may it continue.

:) Charlie is definitely a character and he is more than welcome to come and keep me warm at night! Old pubs are not the warmest of places!

It is pleasing to know that the village is host to 3 good pubs, I just hope that the new tenants of the D&D get the same friendly welcome that I have!  Thank you.

If Charlie is going to be there, then I'm definitely returning  :)

He'll probably be there tonight Mrs J; we're intending to be there for the Wednesday night club.

Oh, and whilst we're on the subject of Charlie, can I put out a plea to all that know him- please don't feed him! (especially not cheesy chips).

I know he begs, but he is well fed at home (and steals our other cats' food too) and, like his Dad, is now on the portly side- we are trying to get his weight down as we don't want him going diabetic.  He is more than happy with strokes (he'll dribble if you get him under the chin) but too much food will be the death of him. Thanks!!!

I hope this is not the Charleee (a spaniel) who runs completely wild whilst his owner(?)  plods round pathetically trying to control him.
Back on subject; my children report - not being a drinker myself, you understand - the (limited) range of beers is very good.
On another subject; it's a shame we don't have a wind farm nearby, it would be earning a fortune for the German Government tonight!
Very best wishes to the new incumbents at the D&D.

I'd love us to be helping the Germans to prop up the Euro, but any nearby wind farm wouldn't be operating as it's too windy! The turbines can't cope with gales. It's a bit like trying to harness energy from waves with a machine that isn't waterproof...         Welcome to Linton, The Only Way Is Up. Hope you enjoy your stay.

RE: Charlie, I think the line 'No cats apart from Charlie' kind of hints that he is not a spaniel. (and the spelling...)

What can I say, my first Friday night at the D&D and sadly, my last!  I have been in Linton just 8 days and although its been a trying time ( due to faulty equipment) I have really enjoyed meeting those of you I have been fortunate enough to engage with.                                                                                        Ok, I am leaving you with a new door closer, correctly priced Good tasting ales and lagers, allowed your 4 legged family members back in, and hopefully restored your faith in your local pub.
My last working day is Tuesday, i will be replaced by a couple who i am assured will do me proud and carry on where i have left off until you get your permanent tenants in february.
If any of You are out driving around wondering what to do with your time, I will not be a million miles away so come and visit, it will be lovely to see You. My next post is at The Bell in Clare, hopefully some if you will come and see me. Thank you all for receiving this "temp from Southampton" so warmly at your local x

Before you go, can you check the radar key lock on the disabled toilet as it's never sat up properly in the locked position for at least 3 months now.
