Winter Wonderland
« on: February 05, 2012, 09:04:28 AM »
Beautiful, isn't it? Really peaceful. If you like that kind of thing, that is.  I've just been round the bypass and seen one of the nuttiest people ever. Pulling out of Bartlow Road was a car that had only had a dinner plate size area of snow removed from the windscreen. The front and back lights were covered, as were ALL the windows and rear windscreen.  Take care out there, please.

Darwinian theory needs to apply here. Just a shame about who else will be taken out when this unintelligent loon cashes in his chips.

It is very beautiful, I agree.

Personally, I'd like to thank our neighbour for taking the time and trouble to clear the path around their house, piling all of the snow around our car. So thoughtful  :-\

Some thanks are due to Camgrain, who I believe sent someone to clear the snow from the paths & road at LVC.

I saw them this morning at about 6.30 with some fairly hefty snow-moving kit.
They are either on a register of people/companies with vehicles for snow clearance and rescue, or they were simply being kind to their neighbours. Either way, good to hear  :)

Due to the snow, I walked most of the way to and from Linton Heights today. What ought to have been a pleasant stroll in the snow became something of an assault course.

Are we, do you think, a village with a higher than normal proportion of chronically stupid people? Is it crass stupidity, or perhaps just good old selfishness that has lead so many of you to clear your drives by piling up the snow and creating enormous ramps in the middle of the pavements? Anyone with more than one brain cell, surely, should see that snow should be cleared to the edge of the road and the edge of the pavement? Presumably, you don't care so long as you can get your car out of your drive ...  My award for 'Linton Waste of Skin of the Week' goes to the person who cleared their drive at the top of Copperfields and left a giant ramp at the bottom of the path leading up to the Heights School. It pretty much blocks the path. Runner up to this week's award is the person who allowed their dog to s**t (my apologies: if you'd seen it, you'd realise there's really no polite word for such a disgusting mess) right outside the fire station bus stop. It was clearly a VERY large dog ...

Think it must have been the "kind to neighbours" option, as I noticed the headteacher and a few of her colleagues were clearing the spade by shovels for much of the afternoon - so I'm guessing that someone from Camgrain saw them and offered the use of the snow plough.

Hi NADMR

Beware that dog. I saw the deposit (mother load) and what ever breed the dirty dog is that left it , he must be a big one, and very hungry after that off-load.

Has anyone thought to clear it up?

... Other than the owner of the dog, you mean?  I don't know about you, but I'm not in the habit of taking a plastic bag with me just in case I see a steaming pile of poo. Perhaps I should, given the number of times it happens.

It had gone when I next happened by ... I expect Mr Tofts had to deal with it.

No, I don't clear up other folks faeces (or their dogs') either. Add it to the ever-growing list of reasons why I'll never be in line for a sainthood.

The same day as Giganti-poo, another 'thoughtful person' had bagged their dog's poo and left the tied-up bag on the pavement outside the Co-op.

If you ever take a stroll along Kingfisher Walk, you will find that, in Winter, when the long grass dies back, it reveals literally hundreds of bags full of dog poo. Somebody clearly walks their dog there daily, bags the poo, and throws it in the long grass. And has been doing so for a long time. Why, if you go to the trouble of bagging it, would you not then bin it????

I know this is pretty trivial stuff and all that, but it DOES impact on peoples' daily lives and is so easily remedied. Just a bit of thought and care for others would make life a lot happier for us all.

It might be trivial, but when someone's thoughtlessness can potentially cause blindness, it suddenly takes on far more importance. I agree wholeheartedly with all NotaDailyMailReader has said.                                                                                 Now it's time for 100 ways to be really stupid, part 94. A special award surely has to go to the Volvo driver I just followed at 2mph from Cambridge, with front and rear fog lights blazing and the obligatory satnav adding to the glare in their eyes. Well done.

Wow! That was a cold night. The maximum/minimum recorded -14 in our garden last night. Anyone get a lower reading than that? The river at the end of the garden has actually frozen from our bank to the bank opposite for the first time I can remember. It did freeze last winter too, but not all the way across.

Look out for a BMW (Basically Mental Wally) driver- reg Y 93 ***.  He just overtook me and the car in front at about 80+, straight in to the path of a lorry, and just managed to swerve back to the left in time, with millimetres to spare. The glare from the low sun may have been a contributing factor in his misjudgement, but that's just one more reason to take more care not more risks.  >:(

Whoah -14? That's COLD!

Sadly, idiots are idiots whatever the weather. NOT overtaking someone in front of you, of course, means everyone will know that your manhood is miniscule, so no matter what the dangers, horrific risks must be taken.

Stay safe, everyone.
